Dr Arup Kumar Misra

Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Assam
Dr. Arup Kumar Misra is the Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, Assam. Before that he was Director of Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) and Director of Assam Energy Development Agency (AEDA); both Nodal Agencies of Govt. of Assam for more than 5 years. Dr. Misra taught in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Assam Engineering College, for almost 25 years. During 1998-2001, he worked as a Senior Fellow in the Department of Science & Technology (Vigyan Prasar), Govt. of India, New Delhi, and initiated few projects for children and youth in India.
A Chemical Engineering graduate from Assam Engineering College and Post-Graduate from IIT Kanpur, Dr. Misra’s areas of interest are Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Green Engineering, etc.
He presented peer-reviewed technical papers in International Conferences at Edinburgh (UK) in 1991, Barcelona (Spain) in 1992, Florida (USA) in 2003, Auckland (New Zealand) in 2004, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in 2015, and Bonn (Germany) in 2016. He was part of a 12-member Indian delegation from MNRE, Govt. of India, to New York & San Francisco in 2017 December. In October 2019 he again represented India in the REEW-19 Congress held at Berlin (Germany). He has over 50 papers in Journals and Proceedings, besides over 200 popular S&T Articles and Reports, and a few book chapters in prestigious volumes.
He was selected as a member of the 5-member Indian youth delegation to Germany and Brazil in 1996 for a two-month Group Study Exchange Tour, which is a prestigious exchange program of Rotary International, USA.
He was also the National Coordinator of National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) during 1997-98. A trained mass communicator, Dr. Misra has anchored and produced more than 150 TV programs and 250 radio programs on science, technology and environment.
