Green Business Titan – Mahindra and Mahindra

The 13th Earth Care Awards recognises the Mahindra Group as the Green Business Titan for its long-standing commitment to sustainability, climate action, and inclusive growth across its diversified businesses. With a legacy of over eight decades, the Mahindra Group has embedded sustainability across sectors including automotive, farm equipment, financial services, technology, real estate, hospitality, logistics, renewable energy, and other key businesses.

Mahindra Group has committed to achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040. As of FY25, approximately 30% of the Group’s electricity consumption is sourced from renewable energy, with a projection to increase to up to 60% in the coming years. The group is water positive and has planted over 25 million trees through Project Hariyali as part of its biodiversity efforts. Additionally, a significant share of the Mahindra Group’s revenues is green-aligned and actively tracked.

Mahindra’s sustainability journey is guided by its ambition to become a Planet Positive business. Mahindra Group’s businesses are progressing across 4 pillars of the planet positive strategy: greening operations, decarbonising industry, climate adaptation & just transition, and ESG leadership & climate advocacy.
Greening operations holistically includes expanding RE use, improving energy efficiency, strengthening water stewardship, and embedding circularity. To decarbonize the industry, the company is accelerating transition to a green portfolio by advancing electric mobility, sustainable real estate, green logistics, auto recycling, etc., and engaging deeply with suppliers to reduce value chain impacts. Focus areas also include climate adaptation and just transition by addressing physical climate risks (e.g., heat stress), promoting sustainable agriculture, & driving biodiversity conservation, alongside just transition initiatives like skilling programs for RE and regenerative agriculture practices.
