Climate risks in India rarely respect administrative boundaries. Cities draw water, food and energy from surrounding rural landscapes, while heat stress, flooding and resource scarcity in one area often cascade into another. Responding to these interconnected risks calls for institutions that can plan beyond their immediate mandates, align local action with state and national climate priorities and deliver at scale. Urban institutions shape this response through mobility, infrastructure and public service delivery, while rural institutions anchor it through natural resource conservation, climate-resilient agriculture, water management and community resilience.
The Institutional Leadership in Climate Action award recognises visionary and impactful initiatives led by institutions actively advancing climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience through effective governance, evidence-based planning and sustainable interventions. This category celebrates institutions that embed climate priorities into development plans, resource allocation and service delivery, overcoming administrative silos to deliver equitable environmental and social outcomes across urban and rural India.
Eligible efforts encompass a wide range of institution-led climate action, including but not limited to:
- Development and implementation of sustainable transport systems, green mobility solutions and climate-resilient infrastructure.
- Implementation of climate-smart water management, water conservation and sustainable waste management systems.
- Protection and restoration of ecosystems through nature-based solutions, green infrastructure and sustainable natural resource management.
- Promotion of climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable livelihoods and convergence of government schemes to strengthen rural climate resilience.
- Integration of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies into public infrastructure, institutional operations and community services.
- Mobilisation of climate finance and integration of climate priorities into institutional budgets, development plans and public investments.
- Implementation of climate risk management, disaster preparedness and resilience-building measures across urban and rural areas.
- Strengthening coordination across government departments, institutions and administrative levels to advance climate planning and implementation.
- Promotion of inclusive climate action through community participation, local governance and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Applications should demonstrate:
- Integration of climate priorities into institutional planning, governance and programme implementation.

Growth-stage enterprises occupy a distinct position in this landscape. Having proven their solutions with customers, they now face the demands of expansion. This includes securing growth capital, building operational capacity and adapting their offerings to new markets and geographies. How well they navigate this phase will shape how quickly climate solutions move from the margins of the market into the mainstream.
This category recognises enterprises whose core products, services or technologies directly contribute to climate mitigation or adaptation. The emphasis is on the effectiveness and measurable impact of the climate solution, alongside the enterprise’s commercial viability and potential for growth, rather than on broader sustainability practices within its business operations.
Solutions may span a wide range of critical areas, including renewable energy, green mobility, energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, circular economy, waste-to-resource models, climate-smart infrastructure, climate risk adaptation, carbon removal, climate finance and climate technology software.
Eligibility

Eligible enterprises must have an established product, service or technology, evidence of customer or market adoption and a viable business model with a clear pathway for continued growth.
Applicants for the Emerging Businesses in Climate Action award should clearly demonstrate the following:
- Market validation and traction: Evidence of customers, users, contracts or commercial adoption beyond initial pilots, supported by revenue or other indicators of sustained market demand.
- Operational maturity: Established capabilities and processes to deliver the solution reliably and consistently across customers, sites or markets.
- Demonstrated climate impact: Quantitative or qualitative evidence that the solution is contributing to measurable environmental or climate outcomes.
- Potential for scale: Ability to expand across customers, markets, geographies or applications while increasing the climate impact created.

Climate change is now more widely discussed than ever, across newsrooms, social feeds, screens and stages. Greater visibility has brought its own challenges, from information overload and misinformation to fatigue with narratives of crisis. In this landscape, the communicators who make a lasting difference are those who earn public trust over time, return to issues with depth and consistency and connect global climate realities with local languages, cultures and lived experiences.
The Communicators for Climate Action category celebrates individuals, collectives, organisations and creative teams whose sustained work deepens public understanding of climate change, highlights solutions and shapes public discourse. It recognises communicators who make complex issues accessible, challenge misconceptions, amplify underrepresented voices and encourage climate-conscious attitudes and behaviours.
Applicants must demonstrate at least three years of consistent work in climate and sustainability communication. Entries may showcase a standalone project, campaign or ongoing series, presented within the context of this wider body of work and may address climate change, biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, climate resilience or related issues.
